The Importance of Summer Camp

Hear from Ms. Toni, one of PTM's Program Directors, about the importance of summer programs!

Summer is beginning, and it has always been my favorite season here at PTM.


I want to take a moment to share some of the important voices of the PTM community: the voices of our parents, students, volunteers, staff, and all the behind-the-scenes people that make PTM summer possible.


A parent once shared with me, “I don’t even worry about my child when they are with you all.”

A volunteer once said, “I have been given much more than I’ve given here at PTM.” 

And a staff member shared, “I just don’t know if I’ll ever find another family like the one I found at PTM.” 


These words remind us why we do what we do. Though we serve faithfully all year long, there’s something special about the summer. It is a time when we truly get to let go, laugh, create memories, and experience joy alongside one another. 

This summer, our theme comes from Psalm 67: 

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine on us.” Psalm 67:1

This verse is a reflection of what we hope every child, family member, volunteer, and staff person feels when they walk into PTM—that they are seen, covered in grace, and surrounded by a love that shines.


I never take for granted that everyone who walks into this space is carrying something. Whether they come to serve, to give, or simply to belong—there is always more beneath the surface. But I also know this: there are over 100 smiling faces waiting here, ready to remind each of us of the love that still exists in this world. 


This summer looks different. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are not able to offer the full-day programming we’ve had in the past. But what remains unchanged is our commitment. 


We will continue to show up. 
We will continue to pour out. 
And we will continue to be poured into. 


Thank you—for every way you show up. Whether you support us financially, volunteer your time, or trust us with your child, please know that you are part of this ministry. You are a part of God shining His face on us.  


This summer, we are excited to work with over 60 students and run programs at Enrichment Camp that help them to uncover their creativity, and activities at Sports Camp that show students their athletic talent! All summer long, and into the school year, we are lucky that we get to walk with students and help them grow into all that God has created them to be!

This year, we are proud to celebrate seven seniors who are taking the next step—some heading to college, others to trade school, and some entering the workforce. What unites them all is the strong sense of community they’ve built here at PTM. A key part of that community is generosity, and we are deeply grateful to the Weaver Family and the Kuhn Family, who together provided over $40,000 in scholarships. Their support has helped not only these graduating seniors but also several current PTM college students.

It is our honor and privilege to establish the Ku-Kuhn PTM Alumni Scholarship in memory of our mothers, Evelyn Chen Ku and Rae Elisabeth Kuhn, to be awarded to PTM alumni in pursuit of further education. Our mothers were dedicated teachers and faithful Christian women with loving, caring and generous hearts. They were dearly loved by their families and colleagues and made a difference in the lives of so many children from the late 1940s through the 1980s.
