PROGRAMS
Each school year, PTM serves approximately 150 students living in low-income communities in northwest Nashville. Low-income neighborhoods are often marked by high poverty, low educational achievement, high crime and rates of teenage pregnancy, and a high number of single parent families.
To counteract some of the challenges students may face in low-income communities, we offer a variety of programs to build connectedness including after-school programming, one-on-one mentoring, Bible studies, weekend retreats and field trips, Enrichment opportunities, and summer camp programs.
Our commitment to fostering a positive and nurturing environment extends to each of these programs, ensuring that students receive the tools and support they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Mentoring
One of the most significant indicators of a young person's success in life is their relationship with a supportive adult. PTM provides multiple in-house mentorship opportunities, and fosters a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, to give our students the chance to connect with encouraging adults.
Afterschool Programs
PTM operates five after-school program sites. For two hours (Monday-Thursday) during the academic year, students rotate between specialized reading instruction, math and reading tutoring, and homework assistance.
Each Friday, we host "Fun Friday" where students are exposed to a variety of volunteer-led enrichment opportunities including dance, sports, art, music, cooking, gardening, and more!
Literacy
Students in K-3rd grade are learning to read, and from 3rd grade on, students are reading to learn. For students still struggling to read in 3rd grade, the highschool dropout rate increases, which is directly correlated to future incarceration rates. Through it's intentional, consistent literacy intervention, PTM is disrupting the school to prison pipeline.
Enrichment
All students, regardless of socioeconomic status, are uniquely gifted and deserve to have opportunities to uncover their dreams. PTM offers multiple pathways for kids to realize and pursue their dreams, including field trips, retreats, camp experiences, specialized programs, and broader exposure to the opportunities within the city. Some of the experiences happen within the afterschool program and others taking place outside regular hours.
Sports
PTM often collaborates with local leagues to provide youth with team sports experiences, fostering constructive social circles, promoting teamwork, and encouraging the exploration of talents and the value of persistence.
Summer
While school is out of session, PTM offers several weeks of summer camp, and countless opportunities for students to make positive, fun memories.
Summer at PTM is full of energy!
Students get to enroll in either Enrichment Camp or Sports Camp, based on their interests. PTM summer is supported by countless interns, volunteers, and creative summer staff.
